  1. Ray of Sunshine

    Lyrics

    Shadows are following me,
    I don’t need sunglasses
Ain’t no sun without you baby
    Ain’t no sun without you

Hands shoved down in my jeans
    I dont gotta dolla
I can’t even holler at you
    I can’t holler at you

Wont you just be my ray of sunshine

I just want my ray of sunshine
Get away from this rain for a minute baby
I just want my ray of sunshine
    Lord knows that I deserve
Oh now wont you give it to me

My job’s gone got no one to blame
    Here with this guitar
Nothing but my heart on my sleeve
Got my heart on my sleeve

One smile I’m warming up sweet
    Standing on this corner
I just wanna know your name
Baby tell me what’s your name

Wont you just be my ray of sunshine

I just want my ray of sunshine
Get away from this rain for a minute baby
I just want my ray of sunshine
    Lord knows that I deserve
Oh now wont you give it to me

    Every dog has his day
I’ve been here in the shade
    For my better days
    I’m not trying to complain
    Trying to make my way
    Here in the sunshine
I just want my ray of sunshine
Get away from this rain for a minute baby
I just want my ray of sunshine
    Lord knows that I deserve
Oh now wont you give it to me

  2. Shed a Little Light

    Lyrics

Shed a little light on this, the stars are gonna help you see
I am gonna do my best to welcome you peacefully
Honey you should get some rest, tomorrow’s going be a long day

Shed a little light on this, everything is meant to be
We don’t get the things we want, but we get just what we need
Faith can be a walking dream; thankfully I’m here to hold you all day

We’re not supposed to understand this grand old story right form these here pages
While were zoomed so close we presume to know that our time is defined by our age

I will wear you love around my neck
Put your hand over my heart
Its darkest just before the dawn.
Then the sun comes up and hope is here
I will pray for you my dear, I’ll pray for you my dear

Shed a little light on this, the moon is going to help you see
We don’t need our lips to kiss; we don’t need our lungs to breathe
Honey if I get one wish, I wish that should you have to leave
You’ll leave your peace with me

Shed a little light on this, life can be so beautiful
I’ll give you my final breath, trade it for a miracle
Faith is just the thing we need, hope is going to help us see the sunlight shine on you

We’re not supposed to understand this grand old story right form these here pages
While were zoomed so close we presume to know that our time is defined by our ages

I will wear you love around my neck
Put your hand over my heart
It’s darkest just before the dawn.
Then the sun comes up and hope is here
I will pray for you my dear, I’ll pray for you my dear

  3. City Lights

    Lyrics

I’m gonna take my time next time I’m in your city
Im gonna take my time next time I’m in your ear
How we dance and call the lights that fall so pretty
I’m gonna take my time and hold you in my hands

I’m gonna give my thanks for everything you’ve shown me
I’m gonna pull those strings you dangle from the sky
Though ive never been so humble and the starts they often crumble
I’m gonna take my time and hold you in my heart

And the city lights, look so damn pretty
    Lying there beneath the starts
I’m feeling like my dreams don’t seem to be so far away

The city lights look so damn pretty
I can hold them in my hands
I’m feeling like I just became a better man

We paint upon our faces what we’re wanting
We tie our shoes and wear the clothes we hope to be
And for everything we know, there’s excuses that we show
And I cant blame you if you want to walk away

And the city lights, look so damn pretty
    Lying there beneath the starts
I’m feeling like my dreams don’t seem to be so far away

The city lights look so damn pretty
I can hold them in my hands
I’m feeling like I just became a better man

If we could go to sleep and wake in New York City
If we could feel the sands the tides that be LA
You know that everything is written in this pavement
The very notion is what fuels the getaway

And the city lights, look so damn pretty
    Lying there beneath the starts
I’m feeling like my dreams don’t seem to be so far away

The city lights look so damn pretty
I can hold them in my hands
I’m feeling like I just became a better man

  4. Upside Down

    Lyrics

Sometimes I need a light when the moon is low
At times I need some loving when my feelings show
Although I never found the way to let you know
I also never found the way to let you go

And now I see that look shining on your face
Your smile warms me up just like a sunny place
My worries disappear and all my fears erase
    You’re my happy place

When do we ever know dear what’s in front of us,
Until we’re looking back here and we see the dust
I know you lift me up when I am feeling rough,
    Right now I’m feeling rough

    So where can you be
    You’re the only upside down
Warm with me with your sunshine now
    On Me
You know me from the inside out
You’re the upside down for me

I lean into your kiss for my sanity
So give me all your lovin for my vanity
The phone is gonna ring and we’ll just let it be, come settle in with me

It only takes the two of us
To clean this mess in front of us
To beam like lights that break the dusk
Here and now is just enough
    For me to believe

  5. She Dont Know

    Lyrics

I’ve got my head up in the clouds
And my feet on this here ground
    There’s a woman over there
    Standing out among the crowd

She don’t know, she don’t know, she don’t know
    What you’re doing to me
She don’t know, she don’t know
But I still can’t tell she’s staring back at me

I’ve got my hand on this here gun
Got a picture of my son
    There’s that woman over there
And she’s claiming she’s the one

She don’t know, she don’t know, she don’t know
    What you’re doing to me
She don’t know, she don’t know
But I still can’t tell she’s staring back at me

So I’m out here by myself
    Couldn’t blame no body else
And the police they got their cuffs
So I keep running from the law

She don’t know, she don’t know, she don’t know
    What you’re doing to me
She don’t know, she don’t know
But I still can’t tell she’s staring back at me

  6. Never Settle

    Lyrics

Every hundred years they line up.
We stare up at the moon, they guide us
And how are we to prove that its for us

I was in my room face down
Feeling so confused by this town
And what was I to do but break down

Certain planets when they rise, call attention to disguises
    Compliment don’t compromise
Feel it right between your eyes

You should never ever settle for it
You should never ever settle for it
You should never ever settle for it, oh

You should never ever settle for
Never run into a burning forest
You should never ever settle for it , oh

Every hundred years they shine here
And everything you want becomes clear
And suddenly you know how to get there

I was in my room lights out
Dreaming how the story plays out
Knowing that it started right now

Certain planets when they rise, call attention to disguises
    Compliment don’t compromise
Feel it right between your eyes
And you were there you felt it too, it did something new to you
Tie your laces speak the truth, speak the truth, speak the truth

You should never ever settle for it
You should never ever settle for it
You should never ever settle for it, oh

You should never ever settle for
Never run into a burning forest
You should never ever settle for it , oh

Certain planets when they rise, call attention to disguises
    Compliment don’t compromise
Feel it right between your eyes
And you were there you felt it too, it did something new to you
Tie your laces speak the truth, purple faces, broken rules

You should never ever settle for it
You should never ever settle for it
You should never ever settle for it, oh

You should never ever settle for
Never run into a burning forest
You should never ever settle for it , oh

  7. Beg For Pardon

    Lyrics

It was Saturday morning I found you
In the corner in your wedding gown
Tearing up bout the love that you thought that you had
This was not how life was going down

And you knew from the moment you felt it
That love should never be so hard
Batter up and you swing and you miss and the crowd goes boo

Now your elbows are scraped up
Oh how fantasies are so rough
    You believed the true love
But it felt so true no your black and blue

    Beg for pardon
    Look what you started
    It’s your time to go
    You didn’t know it
    Till its broken
So sing it loud with the stereo

Momma said that you’re better off without him
And you tend to wanna disagree
Bottle up in the with a bow in your hair so free
So just dance as the rain showers on you
Let the makeup run on your face
Screaming out at the wind I will find it again you’ll see

Now your elbows are scraped up
Oh how fantasies are so rough
    You believed the true love
But it felt so true no your black and blue

    Beg for pardon
    Look what you started
    It’s your time to go
    You didn’t know it
    Till its broken
So sing it loud with the stereo
Well what in the hell do you know

So you’ve never been on for forgiveness
And you’re always hardest on yourself
Thought you know that you should cuz’ it does you no good
You’re gonna find you somebody else
When you’re down you get up so much stronger
It’s so much better when you feel the pain
Batter up and you swing and you win and the crowd goes crazy

    Beg for pardon
    Look what you started
    It’s your time to go
    You didn’t know it
    Till its broken
So sing it loud with the stereo
Well what in the hell do you know

  8. Feels Like Home

    Lyrics

Oh I, I wanna build you up make you feel so strong
I’ve got these big old broad shoulders here for you to stand on
So wont you climb on up cuz I’m someone that you can depend on
And if you question yourself then wont you let me carry one

All these things that I do are cuz I really love you
You think that I’m crazy babe well then maybe its true
But if I can do something right for once in my god forsaken life
Then let me start by telling you that I love the things that you do

It took one hundred and eighty five days
For me to get out of the way from myself
I loved you in five- hundred ways
I can’t seem to be happy with no one else
You met the boy meet the man I am today
No excuses left to say I’m on my own

I wonder if I’ll ever see the day where you can look at me and say
You feel like home, feels like home, feels like home, feels like home

I wanna wear you out I want to watch you sleep
Close my eyes and meet you there back in my dreams
When I wake back up I’m holding you in my arms
I said some nasty things but I didn’t mean you no harm
To my attention its come that we’ve both been so dumb
My legs have wobbled to and from
Head shaking what we could become
But now I see so clearly that I need you near me
Cuz you’re a prairie fire baby and I’m and ice cold beer

It took one hundred and eighty five days
For me to get out of the way from myself
I loved you in five- hundred ways
I can’t seem to be happy with no one else
You met the boy meet the man I am today
No excuses left to say I’m on my own

I wonder if I’ll ever see the day where you can look at me and say
    You feel like home

If I could say these things to make you feel inside
Tear down those berlin walls baby and tumble that pride
Now that we both have changed and we both can be
How life can be so strange its like destiny

It took one hundred and eighty five days
For me to get out of the way from myself
I loved you in five- hundred ways
I can’t seem to be happy with no one else
You met the boy meet the man I am today
No excuses left to say I’m on my own

I wonder if I’ll ever see the day where you can look at me and say
    You feel like home

  9. Salutations

    Lyrics

    I cant figure out
How I’m ever gonna do without
    Salutation’s gonna do me right
You made a mess of me,
and so I finally need to set you free.
Cuz life’s not living if I cant be me

And we may change just like the weather
We we’re smooth like silk tough as leather

Don’t beat up your heart, nothings guaranteed from the start
    Validation’s gonna take some time
    It aint what it seems
A congregation of my broken dreams
    Salutation’s gonna do me right

And we may change just like the weather
We we’re smooth like silk but broken together ( or tough as leather)

    Chorus:

    Salutations, just have patience
Time will wash this all away
The things that broke us, they soon will save us
We’ll both be better off this way

Well it aint easy moving on
    But when something goes wrong,
    something goes wrong
and you can only go so far
try to make up for mistakes
that brought us back to where we are

  10. I Wish These Leaves Would Fall

    Lyrics

How I wish these leaves would fall
How I wish these leaves would fall
That means winter would be here
And when it snows you disappear

How I wish these tears would fall
How I wish these tears would fall
Cuz my wits have found their end
And the days are getting shorter
    And I’m lonely again

    Homecoming lights
    They burn so bright
I used to dream of her in white
    Gone are the days
    High school love fades

How I wish you would call
How I wish you would call
Hear your voice one more time
Send those chills down my spine

    Homecoming lights
    They burn so bright
I used to dream of her in white
    Gone are the days
    High school love fades

If I could go back for a minute
And feel that good love I was given
And through the years I keep forgetting
Then those leaves fall and I remember it all

How I wish these leaves would fall
How I wish these tears would fall
How I wish you would call
    But gone are the days
    High School love fades

Album Description

It all starts with a voice. And after hearing the emotive, gritty and always soulful sound of singer-songwriter GoldFord, it is clear that a voice like this is rare.

GoldFord’s debut album “Shed a Little Light,” written and performed by Chicago-based solo artist Jeffrey Goldford, showcases his unique signature of “rock n’ soul,” blended with layers of Americana folk and elements of country rhythms. His vocal style emulates Joe Cocker, his arrangements bring out a dose of funk, tied together with a storytelling touch reminiscent of Amos Lee.

Mixed by Steven Kay and mastered by Dave Cooley, “Shed a Little Light” was recorded and produced in LA by seasoned veterans Ethan Phillips, (Fitz & the Tantrums, Allen Stone, Brett Dennen) and Danny Chaimson (Solange, OAR). After discovering GoldFord, Chaimson and Phillips tapped into their vast network of LA’s finest to bring this truly classic album to life.  Blair Sinta (Alanis Morissette, Damien Rice) provides drums, Ben Ralicke (Ben Harper, Beck) and Jordan Katz (Neon Trees, Jimmy Clif) drive the horn section, and Maurissa Tancharoen (Emmy-winning songwriter) sings background vocals on the introspective ballad “Never Settle.” Other standout tracks include the hopeful “Shed a Little Light,” the energetic and classic “Ray of Sunshine” and the twang-driven, rebellious “She Don’t Know.”

“Shed a Little Light” tells the story of GoldFord’s hard-won journey into self-acceptance. Whether it is the loss of a loved one, or following your dreams, each song on the album collectively articulates the same message: what is meant to be will be…and never, ever settle.

“When listening to the track ‘Ray of Sunshine’…I thought there was some mistake and the souls of the Stax trifecta (Otis, the Memphis Horns and Steve Cropper) were visiting me through the mastering console… but really it was the amazing talent of Jeffrey Goldford.”
